Kopan Monastery, Nepal

Kopan Monastery, Nepal

Description

Kopan Monastery is an operating Tibetan Buddhist monastery in Budhanilkantha, north of Kathmandu. Its current official site and 2026 calendar list introductory and intermediate Buddhist courses, meditation retreats, daily Dharma talks and the annual November Course. The Nepal Tourism Board also identifies Kopan as a monastery offering Tibetan Buddhist courses.

The July and August 2026 calendar includes ten-day introductory Buddhism courses and seven-day meditation retreats, with named teachers and periods of guided practice or silence. Accommodation and meals are part of some residential formats, but room type, availability, fees or offerings, dietary arrangements and visitor access vary by course and should be checked against the current calendar and guidelines.

Read the course, guest and retreat rules before registering. Confirm dates, religious content, teacher, language, silence and attendance requirements, room and bathroom, meals and allergies, accessibility, altitude or heat, medicine storage, emergency care, visa and transport arrangements, fees or donations, refund terms and whether independent sightseeing is compatible with the schedule. Meditation is not a substitute for mental-health or medical treatment.
